Upcoming Events JANUARY International Aid Assessment Team to visit Cuttington in January A four man assessment team from International Aid will visit Cuttington University soon. Steve Rienstra, Mark Heydenburg, Brain Barker and Lydia Andrews will visit Cuttington from 19 to 23 January, 2008. At Cuttington, the team will have a meeting with the President, Dr. Henrique F. Tokpa and some key personalities from the Nursing College. The purpose of their visit, according to an email received from the Medical Equipment Director, Mark A. Heydenburg, is to assist Cuttington improve its Nursing Program. The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution to Host a Two Day Workshop The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Cuttington University in collaboration with the Kofi Annan Institute for Conflict Transformation, University of Liberia and Bradford University, London, will hold a two-day in-house faculty development workshop in peace and conflict transformation, development studies and democratic governance in post-conflict Liberia. The workshop will run from Monday to Tuesday, January 14 ñ 15, 2008, respectively in the Seth C. Edwards Conference Room on the main campus of the Cuttington in Suakoko, County. Some of those expected to be in attendance at this workshop include: Dr. Joseph S. Guannu; Director for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Cuttington University, Dr. Henrique F. Tokpa: Ph.D., President, Cuttington University, Dr. David Francis; Director, Africa Center for Peace and Conflict Studies, Mr. Theodore V. K. Brown; Dean, Education College, Cuttington University, among others. Bradford University, based in the Kingdom has decided to build the capacities of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Cuttington University and the Kofi Annan Institute for Conflict Transformation, University of Liberia. Series of activities and programs have been planned for this purpose. Among these are Curriculum and Staff Development Workshops between the institutions. The first of these two workshops was held from October 22-25, 2007, in Monrovia at the Cuttington University graduate School building. The Curriculum Development Workshop is under the supervision of the Kofi Annan Institute for Conflict Transformation. This is the second phase which is due to take place from January 14-15, 2008, at Cuttington University. It is expected that at the end of these workshops, the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution of the Cuttington University will revise the Curriculum for its Peace Studies Programme to conform to international standards. This Curriculum, when developed will be culturally relevant and uniformed with the Kofi Annan Institute of Conflict Transformation. Additionally, the workshop will afford other staff and faculty of the University an exposure to Peace Studies and its relevance to the University and Liberian society at large. Cuttington University Fund Drive Steering Committee along with Several High Ranking Personalities to Visit CU Campus on Saturday, January 12, 2008 In its bid to rejuvenate Cuttington University, the Dr. Tokpa led Administration has launched a one million US fund drive, which when completed will enable the Administration to refurbish damaged infrastructures on campus. During the official launch of this fund drive on December 20, 2007, which was spearheaded by the President of the Republic of Liberia, Her Excellency Mrs. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, CU raised an initial amount of US$100,000.00 along with some material support from different sectors of the Liberian Community. During the formal launch of the fund drive, the Lebanese Community promised to identity a project on Cuttington campus that they can undertake; while the Alumni Association of Cuttington University promised to pave the street from the entrance to the power house. The purpose of the visit on Saturday will be to do a spot check in order to do estimate of what is to be done according to order of priority. Leading the delegation to Cuttington University will be Mr. Paul E. Mulbah, Chairman of the Steering Committee. |
