MANDING JALLAH F C HOLDS CUTTINGTON TO A THREE ALL DRAW

"Cuttington University is not only interested in academic excellence, but also interested in making sporting activities on Cuttington Campus second to none in Liberia," Mr. Francis O. Nyeekpee, the Sports Director at Cuttington told the Information Officer on Wednesday, May 14, when CU had a friendly encounter with Manding Jallah F C, a third division team from Gbarnga. The encounter, which brought together over two hundred spectators from Cuttington and its environs and Gbarnga ended in a three-three draw.

This is just one of a series of matches we playing in the next couple of days, senior coach of Cuttington University, Mr. Dominic Fambulleh managed to outer as he moved back and forth giving instructions to his boys on the pitch.

After the match, I managed to snatch a few words from Mr. Cooper M. Sannah, Senior Coach of the visiting team and this is what he had to say; "I am very proud of the performance of my boys today even though they drew. In soccer, you go for three things: to win, loose or draw."

CU Farm

Cuttington Farm

One of the major components considered in the establishment of Cuttington University was its location, which makes it very essential for the establishment of Agriculture Programs to empower community members and other farmers. Cuttington University Farm, currently under the Management of Mr. Francis O. Nyeekpee, has five major components that are vital for crops and animal production, with an addition of a dam which will enable the production of paddy rice throughout the year.

CU has over 200 acres of low land that can be used for rice production and another 150 acres of upland that can be used for vegetable production and other cash crops. The rubber enterprise has about 300 acres that are presently in production and another 130 acres of new plantation.

Meanwhile, the rubber enterprise also should be able to generate income for the institution and to create employment opportunity for the local communities.

The rice project arm of the farm is to create opportunity for income generation, provide quality seeds for local farmers and give the College of Agriculture the opportunity to train students in rice production.

Other sectors such as the Vegetable, Fishery and Animal Compound are all high potential income generation for the institution.

Although the 14year civil unrest in Liberia seriously damaged these sectors, with the help of some donors in 2004, the Universityís farm was rehabilitated with funds provided by Africare, ASUR and the European Union. Nonetheless, there are still many constraints which slow the process down.
